PR Newswire
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct. 7, 2026
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — ClearSky Health, a premier rehabilitative healthcare provider, has announced plans to build a new 36-bed medical rehabilitation hospital in Smithfield, N.C., which is expected to treat more than 650 patients annually and create about 100 new jobs in the community.

The hospital will provide specialized rehabilitative care to patients recovering from disabling injuries or illnesses such as strokes, brain injuries, hip fractures, spinal injuries, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or other medically-complex conditions.
“We will work closely with the medical and business communities to ensure the hospital complements existing acute care services and strengthens access to specialized rehabilitation in the area,” says Michael Warrington, CEO of ClearSky Health. “By providing patients with high-quality rehabilitation close to home, we can help them transition from acute care to the next stage of their recovery while remaining near their families and support systems. This proximity can make a meaningful difference as patients work to regain independence and quality of life.”
Patients at the hospital will be treated by an interdisciplinary healthcare team that includes a physician; rehabilitation nurses; physical, occupational, and speech therapists; case managers; respiratory therapists; dietitians; and other healthcare professionals. The 45,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art hospital will feature all private patient rooms, a rehabilitative gym with specialized equipment and one-on-one therapy, a dining room with a dedicated chef and food service staff, an activities of daily living space that emulates home conditions, and an outdoor therapeutic courtyard.
“Through specialized staff training and advanced technology and equipment, we will be able to provide patients with the individualized care and support they need to help obtain the best possible outcomes as they progress toward recovery and greater independence,” Warrington says.
ClearSky Health currently owns and operates 15 medical rehabilitation hospitals in Arizona, Florida, Kansas, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin, with four more hospitals under development in Arizona, South Carolina, and Wisconsin. With the addition of the North Carolina hospital, ClearSky Health will operate 20 medical rehabilitation hospitals nationwide.
